Ingenuous trap...

Devgarh Thikana near Udaipur produced the two foremost painters which Rajasthan ever saw- Bagta and his son, Chokha. Their paintings are regarded as masterpieces of not only Rajasthani, but Indian painting in general. They were active in the the early part of the 19th century. An excellent account of these two painters and their work is found in the book Rajasthani Painters:Bagta and Chokha-Master Painters at Devgarh by Milo Beach and Rawat Nahar Singh ( http://www.asiafinebooks.com/cgi-bin/afb455.cgi/3492.html?id=BUjDz3X3&mv_pc=288).

Earlier this year a work by Bagta appeared at an auction house in New York. It shattered the pre-auction estimate of $30-50,000/- and ended up selling for over $3,00,000/- and thus established a new world record for one of the most expensive Indian paintings(antique) to have sold at an auction on the open market. http://www.bonhams.com/press_release/9841/
