this is a wonderful series. thanks.

wonder where is Umraoganj?

can someone throw light on the origin of word "Masnad" as its used in marathi also?

Nitin Ashok Bhagawat: Masnad/Musnud should be a sanskrit/hindi word, referring to the high seats of princes.

Arindam Sen ,High seat of Peshwa in his darbar was called Musnud. Are you sure of its Sanskrit origin? What may be the original word in Sanskrit?Or is it of Farsi/Persian origin.

Can someone Throw some light on what was the Court Language ?

Nitin the word Peshwa itself has Persian origin.

Yes Sameer there are hundreds of common words in Marathi adopted from Persian/farsi!As Farsi was the court language in medieval times..

In farsi clerk is called as nawis so we have many words in marathi like Phadanawis,Surnawis,.Peshwa word originates from Peshgi. So the question arises what can be the original word for Musnud in farsi.

You are right Mr. Bhagawat. Origin: 1755–65; < Urdu < Arabic. I thought it would be sanskrit, as the word is used in some of our languages. The hindi word is masnad.

Yes Nitin, I am Maharashtrian and Urdu is my mother Tongue so I am very much aware of Persian words in Marathi even today.

now this is a diwan-e-aam inside the hazarduari palace as the nobles are seated per their hierarchy and so also the resident. The bunting above is of velvet with zari and silk trimming all around.Interestingly the hubble bubble is the centre of attraction. The chawar (flywhisks made of yaks tail) and the morchaal (made of peacock or other feathers) both were Hindu symbols which the muslims adopted. I am pleasantly surprised to see them in a shia kingdom as well.
