RBSI I am sure your idea is to post a book on the Gonds following from discussions on another tread but this book....Full of contempt, condescension and at best a feeling the "child races of India" deserved consideration. The Gonds were an "uncivilised part of the Dravidians" . Really... Is it worth reading a book full of so many pejoratives and unacceptable attitudes. If these books are old throw them into the dustbin of history, they do not deserve our time or consideration.
Yes Sumedha! This book was posted in continuation to the earlier discussions here. It is unfortunate that it has been written in a disparagingly style towards the Gonds. Since there are few books on the Gonds in English...we have to gloss over the offensive passages and references in order to get an idea of the Gond history.
We also have to keep in mind that this book was probably written by a missionary who sole objective was to convert these people.
The Right Reverend Eyre Chatterton - who was Irish by birth and background - was not really a ' missionary ' , RBSI. He served as the Anglican Bishop of Nagpur between 1903 and 1926.
His father, the interestingly named Hedges Chatterton , was an even more emminent figure, having been appointed Attorney-General for Ireland in 1867 and who later became, briefly, a Member of Parliament - for Dublin University - and who was the Chancellor of the same institution for thirty-seven years. James Joyce mentioned Chatterton Snr in his ' Ulysses' , wherein Stephen Dedalus reflected about a friend thus :
"Old Chatterton, the Chancellor, is his granduncle or his greatgranduncle. Close on ninety they say. Subleader for his death written this long time perhaps. Living to spite them" ...
Footnote : Has there been some sort of technical fault with the RBSI page over the last day or two - much of the recent content, about 10 days worth of posts, seems to have mysteriously disappeared, from this end at any rate ?
Julian: Thanks for the update on Rev.Chatterton.
You might be aware that we have been using an app called PostCron for scheduling our posts on RBSI from almost an year. This saves an incredible amount of time and helps us to schedule the posts on a theme in an interesting manner. Surprisingly...ever since FB has made some changes yesterday...all the posts (that would mean almost 90% of them) that have been posted using PostCron have been shifted to the Photo Album from the RBSI wall!! They have in fact disappeared from view...

Yeow, I was wondering what happening here :-(
What is the solution.
It means that FB does not want to allow any external applications! It seems to be going the Apple way... : (
Gah. :-(
What is the problem? I did not see any?
And with reference to unavailability of books, the need of the hour is to write proper histories minus the Imperial point of view. What about the book written by Leeladhar Gondraja's Uncle? There may be many others like him who we do not know about.
