The native loom or Mag, Berar - 1866

Photograph of the native loom or Mag at Berar in Maharashtra, taken by an unknown photographer in c. 1866, from the Archaeological Survey of India. The weaver sits with his legs in a type of hole which contains the lower portion of the machinery which he works with a pedal at his feet. When making an elaborate cloth an assistant will help to work the increased number of ropes and combs.
