Carpet for the Throne Pavilion of the Coronation Durbar complex at Delhi in 1911

Scale drawing in pen and black ink with gold paint and red watercolour wash, of the carpet for the Throne Pavilion of the Coronation Durbar complex at Delhi in 1911. The carpet is red in colour, decorated with gold arabesque patterns. The carpet has the centre cut out to accommodate the raised platform where the thrones were placed. The carpet is square in shape but has the corners cut out so that it can fit around the four columns which support the dome covering the pavilion. The scale for the painting is at the top left of the page, below in the inscription.

This drawing comes from a collection of twelve drawings (1915,1126,0.1-12) prepared at the Mayo School of Art, Lahore. The drawings detail the main structures and decorations used in the Delhi Durbar of 1911. The 1911 Delhi Durbar was held to commemorate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary as Emperor and Empress of India. The Durbar was attended by both King George V and Queen Mary.
