Indra

Gouache painting on paper from a portfolio of sixty-three paintings of deities and daily life. The deity Indra sits with his consort, Indraṇī, on the back of their white elephant, Airāvata. This animal has four tusks, although generally it is supposed to have six, and carries in his trunk a garland of flowers. Indra carries a tanka (chisel), a ankusha (elephant goad) and a serrated sword. His fourth hand is around Indrani's waist. Indra’s body is covered in open eyes .
